Dropping a pine with the Hud-Son Forest Equipment Uniforest 35M skidding winch on a John Deere 3025M tractor.
Alright. We are out in the woods today. This will be the first video of 2023 and hopefully we don’t have any issues.
So what we got is a pine tree and I’m running out of anchors, so I need a lot of chain. So I got the cable, couple chains all attached together but I was running out of anchor points. So I’m using the tractor which makes me a little nervous but this pine here is what I want to take down.
So, before I lose my old anchor tree here I want to get that down.
So, we got the chain wrapped around the tree with the snatch block, the cable that I’m using the cable off the tractor because I think there is about 230 feet of it, so it gives me lot’s of distance. I got the small comealong winch here. This is what I’ll use for actual tensioning. There is pretty good tensioning on it already. I just pulled the slack up on the tractor.
This here is going to be the anchor and the other point is going to be right here.
So I got the tractor kinda behind this oak tree here just in case something goes that we don’t pull the tractor over.
Hopefully this will be enough to keep everything from going over. If for some reason something goes wrong on us.
So this is where were set up. I got the second camera here and I figured that tree is about 90 feet. We’ll find out. 100 feet is right out here. That’s why that sticks right there. I measured it out. Should be 110 feet. I’m not quite sure that trees that long.
I guess we’re going to find out. So lets hop to it.
**noise chainsaw starting and running. Blocking tree and cutting it down. Using comealong to tighten cable. Tree falling, lands perfectly in log landing. **
Alright! So we made a mess! Got it down!
I knew it was pretty close on the backside when I cut it down. It seemed like when I was cutting it was opening up and the cable seemed like it got some slack in it. I kinda figured it was coming this way so a couple of cracks on the old comealong winch there. It lays pretty nice there.
We should measure it to see what the total length is there. Were pretty close. Got down to the nitty gridy here. So that’a a nice looking pine. All the way to the end here. Nothing in there, doesn’t look bad at all.
So I’ll get the chains off. I’m going to cut these up to 12 foot lengths again. It looks like I’ll get some decent lumber in here again.
Yeah, we missed the camera so were good that way.

Tractor moving around 12 foot blocked logs around to stack them by the shed.
Alright, so were wrapping it up here. At least for today. Everybody in the house has to go back to work tomorrow so I’m thinking I’ll come out here again. I’ll clean up what’s left here. It’s not too much. Probably half a day here. Looks like there’s a collteral oak branch that came down but overall it went okay. It was a little frustrating when we didn’t have enough cable to get that pine down and now I’m wondering if I should take the other one down too before I drop this oak.
I don’t know. The tractor is definat handy. 230 feet 3/8 cable is really nice to have. That makes a huge difference when your trying to move things.
I don’t know. I just feel like this pine is in the way too. If I could just pop this one out. Get this one down right away than were good. I hope!!
This oak here. I don’t think I’m going to do anything with. We’ll leave that one.
Maybe this one yet. This main one here still has to go. That one for sure we’ve got to get out of there but until I know I’m done I kinda want to leave that as an anchor. It’s good for pulling on.
So other than that really nice day out here today. It’s got to be close to 40 degrees out so we’re talking about rain and really heavy snow.
So were getting packed up and were going to head out. It was suppose to be cloudy all day today. The sun was out the whole time. So I never even put a coat on. Really nice, so.
Alright! That will be it for now!
