YouTube Influencers Two Brothers Outdoors “How many frozen logs can we cut with one blade?”
Hello everybody and welcome back to our YouTube Channel Two Brothers Outdoors.
I’m Rick and today we’re going to try to finish up that order of one by 10’s.
This is the last log we have and it’s pine.
This is actually a spruce that is 10 foot long.
Everything else we got is eight foot.
Tim thinks we can finish the order with three logs and if we do this right I think we can we only have to have six more boards.
There’s only one problem I see with this log.
This log has got some swoop in it, so I’m going to have to be very careful here and cut it just right.
I’m going to end up short on boards and then we won’t be able to finish this order.
All right, so let me get this set up on the mill and get ready to cut.
As you can tell wearing my heavy Carhartt coat.
Again that’s because the temperatures have plummeted it’s about 16 degrees outside right now.
We’re at 3 o’clock in the afternoon supposed to get colder as the week goes on.
The only good thing about this is we’re not by ourselves.
From what I understand from the weatherman this is going to go all the way down to the deep south.
So our southern brethren are going to share this with us.
It’s always nice to share LOL!
all right guys, I’m going to try to get this lined up the best I can.
Hopefully get at least six boards out of it.
All right, so right now it likes to lay right there.
If I cut this with the swoop up or the ends up, I don’t know if I can get 10 inches out of this log.
Even though it’s a nice 15 inch log, but if I have the swoop running this way I can at least get 10 inches out of it.
I may not be able to get six boards, but I can get 10 inches.
That’s just kind of some of the things that you have to account for when you’re setting things up on the sawmill.
All right, I’m going to get the saw warmed up and then we’ll start sawing.
Meanwhile I’m going to shut the audio off and I will narrate after we do the video.
Now what I didn’t show you guys in the video is that before we started, I found the center of the log and measured up 5 in.
That 5 inch mark. It’s the mark I don’t drop below, so we can get 10 inch cant out of this log.
I will work my way down to that mark one in at a time.
Okay, I’m going to roll this log 90° and then we’re going to lock it down.
You will see that the swoop is up on this log when I make my first cut watch how thick it is in the middle.
As you can see there’s about a 3-inch difference between the ends and the center of this off cut.
So that’s telling me that that swoop is about a 3 inches swoops down.
If you notice I have to hit the offcut sideways to get it break loose from the log that’s because it is freezing.
Right back to the log after I cut it because everything is so cold and the log is frozen.
All right guys, this is going to be the moment of truth.
This will tell me whether I have enough log to get the boards I need or not.
Looks like we’re good. We got 10!
Well, I’m very pleased the amount of boards we got out of this log and looks like I’m due for a blade change.
I’ve cut three frozen logs with this blade and it was getting just a little bit hard to cut in the end.
I think it’s time for a new blade!!
All right guys, all I got left to do now is cut up these flitches.
There’s only two of them.
Might be able to get eight inches out of them.
We got that order complete!!
It’s ready to go. Looking good.
